MINT condition?

What does your understanding of MINT condition mean ?

I personally would take someone describing an item in MINT condition to mean “like new” or “as good as new” “immaculate”.

i.e, no scratches, marks, dents, etc “like new”.

Do you agree ? or disagree ?

Just curious.

Thanks.

Mint state or mint condition is a grade for a coin. The coin can have scratches and what is referred to as bag marks. That is why there are mint state grades from MS-60 to MS-70. A mint state coin has no wear. An error coin can have no wear but be struck way off center and be missing have it’s image. It is not a matter if I agree or not, it is how it is in the coin, medal or token collecting community. Rules had to be made on these items as to wear and it was also found some mint state items those with no wear were better than others. A coin with no wear is in mint condition but the planchet could have scratches from the minting process as well as bag marks from the bags the coins used to be shipped in. Now they ship in huge plastic boxes. The machines used to put the coins in rolls also can damage the coin but the coin still has not circulated so in still uncirculated so is mint state. To be a coin collector one must learn the rules so to speak. It is the same with stamps as well as other collectibles. What to do go as a coin collector, read up one the coins you collect, know more than the dealer about that series and don’t let him know you do. Then you can get rare varieties at a coomon one price. Learn to grade coin and get ones undergraded for a low price. It all boils down to how much you work on your hobby. There are a lot of coin collectors who fill holes in albums, a lot of investors who throw away their money for they don’t know what they are doing and very few numismatist who study what they collect and in the long run make the most money from their coins and have the most fun.

At Easter sauce I'm sure many people will be waiting for their traditional Easter meal of roast lamb with all the details – including the mint. Contrary to you would think however, the mint sauce was not invented by the English, but it was surely all in Roman times, if not even earlier. In the writings of Apicius can find recipes for mint sauce with cumin seeds and pine nuts to serve with roast pork, pepper, almonds, oregano and honey as a sauce for cold fish, and pepper, lovage, red wine and vinegar to eat with lamb.

However, in the ancient world, the mint was valued by its qualities as for its medicinal properties as a culinary herb. Its delicious scent was thought to be stimulating to the mind and appetite, Pliny suggested that while students should braid a wreath of mint to use in his head to stimulate his brain. This may not be as silly as it sounds, since aromatherapists claim that essential oils of certain plants such as mint, can improve memory and concentration.

The Roman legions were cuttings of their favorite herbs with them as they conquered Europe, and mint is one of many useful herbs that made Britain more than 2,000 years ago. By coining the Middle Ages had become a favorite, which is found in every garden used both in cooking and medicine. It is difficult to be certain what kind of mint that the Romans introduced to these islands as there are an astonishing variety of species. Most botanists agree however, that it was likely that horsemint, which has developed our modern minds. Species with other popular today is the mint, which has a purplish stem, although easy to buy a range of plants, including pineapple, apple, eau de toilette, ginger and bergamot mint!

Spearmint is the softest of the two species and in Spain is known as "grass" Good – the mint, and is used to treat a variety of diseases of childhood as teething, colic and fever. Mint has always been used to treat a wide spectrum of diseases, although I'm not sure of success would been to relieve pain from the bite of a rabid dog, or to relieve labor pains as recommended by Culpepper?!

Culpepper also recommends mint as "useful for all stomach disorders and modern herbalists agree with him, using it to treat morning sickness in pregancy and recommended an infusion of mint and ginger to treat travel sickness. Children with stomach disorders can also be relieved by this tea.

The effect slightly stimulating mint was known to doctors of ancient Greece and Rome, which used as a mild nerve tonic – a use that continued into the 17th century England …. "Mint is sometimes used with balm and other herbs as an aid to comfort and strengthen the nerves." Applied locally, peppermint oil may have a mild analgesic effect, causing first a sensation of cold, then mild numbness.

Culpepper Another recommendation was to gargle a pill infusion of mint in your mouth to "heal the mouth and gums that are sore." Scurvy or vitamin C deficiency is a common problem in spring in the days after the long winter months when fresh fruit and vegetables were scarce. In fact, the newly elected mint averages about as much vitamin C as an equal weight of oranges and more carotene than carrots, which makes it excellent nutritional value. To make the most of these properties, try adding mint finely minced to any salad – refreshing and good for you.

If you feel as if he may succumb to a cold, then a classic appeal is the country of equal parts of elderflower, yarrow and mint tea in boiling water, strained, sweetened with honey and drink it hot last night. Hope you feeing better in the morning! Mint is also an excellent insect repellent, a big bunch hanging in the back door is a great way to eco-friendly discouraging flies.

If after reading this, try to introduce to your garden mint, if not already done so, then remember – all the mints are very vigorous producers and do not want to take over the whole plot, the plant in a bottomless bucket sunk level with the ground. They are perennials and will rise each year.

By Finally – for hot weather – do not forget champagne julep. Fill your glass, add a sugar cube and two sprigs of mint. All we need now is the ideal for summer!
