How do I find out what my shirt/blouse and dress size is ?

I always buy shirts or dresses that are size medium,sometimes large for sweaters. How do I find out my size in numbers for shirts/blouses and dresses?
What about pants suites, skirt suites, swim suites, jackets and coats, hats, etc.

First, take your measurements. Women’s clothes are measured by bust, waist and hips. Once you have that, make sure you know your height. Anything above 5′4″ is regular sized; anything shorter is considered petite. If you’re smaller, you can still wear “regular” sizes, but you’ll find that pants will be too long and skirts won’t be proportioned correctly. Also, if you’ve got a straight-shaped figure with slim hips, you may be more comfortable in junior sizes. If you have less of a “teenage” shape and are more developed in the bust and hip area, you’ll want to shop in misses sizes.

Since women’s clothing manufacturers all size differently, grab a catalog and compare your measurements with what’s listed in their size charts. Most of the time, you will fall into 2 sizes. For example, I can wear a 6 or an 8 misses in 99% of clothing I try. Very rarely, I can wear a 4, but this is only in designer clothing I never buy anyway. You will find that expensive designer clothing is sized generously for the size on the label (presumably because wealthier women are vain and like the ego boost of wearing a smaller size, or what they think is one).

Your best bet after this is just trying things on. As I said, there is no “standard” for women’s clothes and everyone sizes just a little differently.
